Top 10 photos of 2014

Each year, I post my top 10 favorite photos of the year. Now, while I have many many favorites I choose 10 based on more than the photos…. it’s the stories that go along with them that make my favorites my favorites… know what I mean? Enjoy:

#10 – Ballet Jump

I love this shot because I caught this very talented ballerina in the air, which is quite difficult to do. I used studio flashes, which limited my shutter speed. I didn’t want to get any blur movement, and to catch her in the air at the height of the pose.  I managed to catch her at the prefect moment, and not only was I pleased with it… but the very particular dance teacher was super happy with it too! Timing is everything!

#9 – Outdoor maternity portrait

I love this shot so much, not only because it’s beautiful but because it is a little out of the ordinary for me with my maternity sessions.  The subject was gorgeous, and the setting was perfect. She also wore a great outfit that worked so well. Thanks Tanya!

#8 – Haystack – Cannon Beach, Oregon. This is my daughter who posed perfectly for the shot I wanted to get in front of the haystack rock in cannon beach, OR. We vacationed there in July this summer for the first time ever. WE loved it! Highly recommend the Surf and Sand resort, the walks downtown, horseback riding and 3 wheel biking on the sand.

#7 – Dundarave Beach sisters – these two beauties posed adorably for me at Dundarave beach this summer. With the light just right, and the location to die for… I was so thrilled to get this beautiful and dreamy shot!

#6 – Miracle Baby Kiera – I waited a long time to photograph this little one! Kiera’s mom is a very dear friend of mine. She waited many years for this miracle baby, fighting fertility issues. Finally the day came for my chance to photograph her, and create some beautiful memories for her family.

#5 – Baby Olive, little sister. This little sister is the second baby in the family I got to photograph! Her big sister, Willow was born just a little over a year ago. Mom and Dad sure have their hands full, but know the importance of a newborn session! We did many of the same poses with baby Olive, and their baby albums will be “fair and square” when they go to look at them years from now.

#4 – Dave Rosin…. While not the first celebrity I have had the pleasure of photographing, Dave and Laura were one of my favorite all time clients! A lovely couple with patience and lots of ideas, their love for eachother is very obvious in the photographs we have taken and in the way they interact with eachother. While working with them during their pregnancy (see #3), the birth of their newborn baby, and holiday portraits… I am proud to now call them my friends.

#3) Favorite maternity shot of 2014 – So, Laura and Dave get 2 spots on my top 10 list this year… they are that amazing! Love them, love the baby, and love this shot for every reason you are thinking… and so many more. Thanks Rosin family! Love to you!!

#2 – Guest Studio session. My friend Ashleigh Wells from Ashleigh Wells Photography made this one happen! I often go above and beyond the call of duty for my clients…sometimes to my detriment, (but that’s another blog post). My client, Laila had a rough delivery and her baby had a bit of a rough start to her life. Before her little bundle got too old for a “newborn” session, I decided to meet up with her closer to her home at my friend Ashleigh Well’s photo studio. I can’t thank Ashleigh enough for her kindness and generosity for sharing her studio without asking any questions or having any issues with it at all! She is beyond an amazing photographer, is my mentor and friend that I owe a huge one to!! Thanks Ash, it was so worth it!!

#1 – My children and my nephew. He is such a special part of our lives and we all love him so much! This photo is my favorite of 2014 because it just shows the love these cousins have for eachother, Domenic’s love of Thomas the train, and my girls getting down to their cousin’s level and just loving him. I printed this as a large 24×30″ canvas for my parents and it was a huge hit. I am happy I will get to see this image every time I visit them and remember this precious time in our lives.

Happy New Year everyone! May 2015 bring you peace, joy, happiness and love. Here’s to capturing more stories in 2015!
